Chamonix nestles in a valley surrounding by mountains. This photo is of stunning mountainous scenery. There is plenty of this scenery in the area, and as you can see the mountains are still snow covered in the Summer.
This was taken during our 1999 holiday when we stayed in the centre of Chamonix and is a view over the town from the balcony of our hotel. I think you will agree that the scenery is stunning!
On glorious summer days, when the sun sets, the mountains around Mont Blanc are bathed in a red glow - it doesn't show up quite as well with the camera I used so you have to imagine the red colour 10 times as deep and you get the idea.
There is a little village not far from Chamonix called Les Bois (the woods) which Pete thinks is wonderful (a good place to retire no doubt!!). In 97 and 99 we stopped at this little hotel restaurant while we were mountain biking to have a long chill out.
This is the Bristol Crew(!) on the Emosson Dam in Switzerland. You can see the reservoir behind Shane, Ian and Pete which means I am standing against the rails only 2 feet from the steep drop to the valley below. It is a good job I am not scared of heights!! While I was developing this website I came across some photos of the transportation used to reach the Emosson Dam and have added them to this section - see photos 22 to 25.
Here I am sat on my hired mountain bike. If I remember correctly my bike's gears didn't function too well and I couldn't select the lowest set of gears which meant that riding uphill on rocky mountain tracks was a bit tricky!! Going downhill wasn't so bad. Shane fell off a couple of times!
