Martyn

PEN PORTRAIT:
Before joining the Ecumaniacs in 1993, the only acting
Martyn had done was in a primary school nativity play, some 18 years earlier,
so experience was somewhat limited! He was asked to join us several times
with the (polite) response being "You'll never get me on stage!", but in
the end he was "persuaded" and hasn't looked back since. Martyn has played
various roles, ranging from a humble villager, palace genie, village idiot
(somewhat typecast!), court herald, to the major role of Buttons in Cinderella.
Then Martyn was "persuaded" to be our musical director and to perform the songs
using his home keyboard (highly technical - sometimes uses the black keys!) -
but he admitted it made a pleasant change not to learn pages of script! He has
also lit up the characters on stage using a follow spot and has expanded his
roles by being a dame and most recently a baddie - BOOOO HISSSS!!! He
has to fit rehearsals in between working nightshifts at a computer data centre, where he learns his lines
during his breaks - or tries to!
Martyn also slaves away at his computer after each production adding text,
photos and video clips to the pages you see here, for he is also the webmaster
of our website.
